Expression of chromogranin A positive cells in prostatic carcinoma
Objective The expression of chromograninA (CgA) in prostatic carcinoma (PCa) was studied. Methods The samples of 30 cases with PCa and 20 cases with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) were examined using immunohistochemical staining with CgA
neuron-specific antigen (NSE)
somatostatin (SS) and calcitonin (CT) antisera. Results The expression of CgA in PCa and BPH was 60%(18/30) and 25%(5/20) respectively and significantly higher than that of somatostatin (SS)
calcitonin (CT) and the Grimelius staining. There have no significant difference between CgA and NSE Immunohistochemical staining
but CgA positive cells showed clear neurosecretory-type granule. Conclusion CgA may be a useful marker for the determination of the neuroendocrine (NE) cells and differentiation in prostatic carcinoma.
