Primary malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) of bone-A microscopical, ultrastructural, histochemical and immunohistochemical study of 21 cases
Objective To study the histiogenesis and morphological features of primary malignant fibrous histiocytoma(MFH)of bone. Methods The microscopic and ultrastructural techniques were used to observe the histologic structure and cytomorphology of bone MFH. Histochemical and immunohistochemical stainings were used to determine the expression of ANAE
ACP
α1-AT
α1 -ACT
CD68
vimentin
NSE
CgA and SY in 21 bone MFH. Results The results of study confirmed that bone MFH was composed of an admixture of various types of tumor cells; the histiocytes and fibroblasts were evidenced by ANAE
ACP
α1-AT
α1-ACT
CD68 and vimentin. Neuroendocrine cells by EM in 3 cases were demonstrated by NSE
CgA and SY. The positive cells were 20%
18% and 15% respectively. Conclusion Our study supports the concept that bone MFH arise from primative mesenchymal cells that are probable of differentiating toward different lines
including neuroendocrine cells. Diagnosis and differential diagnosis of bone MFH were also discussed.
