Neuromuscular and cardiovascular effects of pipecuronium bromide
Objective:The neuromuscular and cardiovascular effects and endotracheal intubating conditions of pipecuronium bromide were studied under balanced anesthesia. Methods:20 ASA I-II grade patients were randomly divided into two groups(n=10)
and were induced with intravenous pipecuronium 0.05mg/kg or 0.075 mg/kg . Intubating conditions were evaluated
the onset time and the degree of neuromuscular blocked and recovered time were monitored with train-of four (TOF) technique. Heart rate( HR)
mean artery pressure( MAP) were non-invasively measured during anesthesia. Results: Intubating conditions were excellent in all patients
except for one with poor intubating conditions following 0.05mg/kg. Onset time
neuromuscular blockage duration
T 1 25% and T 1 75% recovery times were significantly different in the two groups
P< 0.05 . Recovery index were similar
P>0.05. The HR were stable and kept in normal range within the whole procedure. The MAP had a fall after induction 3 min
then quickly recovered to base level. Conclusion:Pipecuronium is suitable for endotracheal intubation during induction of anesthesia
as well as for maintenance of muscle relaxation both in middle and longer surgical procedures. The cardiovascular effects after pipecuronium in both groups were minimal.
