The activation of protein kinase C mediated by high glucose in MDCK cells
The effect of high glucose on the signal transduction pathway of protein kinase C (PKC) in MDCK cells wasobserved. It was found that PKC was activated via trans1ocation from cytosol to membrane in cultured MDCKce1ls exposed to high dextrose. However
the activity of Na+
K+-ATPase was decreased and tliis can beprevented by PKC inhibitor staurosporine(SS). These findings suggested that the activation of PKC signaltransduction pathway induced by elevated glucose in renal tubular epithelial cells may be involved in thepathogenesis of diabetic nephropathy.
