To invesigate the effect of dexamethasone in the treatment of intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy

we observed 69 woman who were divided into two groups

at between 28 and 37 weeks gestation

with intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy.In group Ⅰ

26 women were given 1.5mg oral dexamethasone three times every day.In group 2(control)

43 women were given nothing After 7 of 14 days

itching was relieved

serum transaminase and bile acid levels fell of recovered

and the gestational weeks were postponded(mean 12.3 days)in group I.There were significant difference when compared to control

P<0.05.No side effect was found in the women and their babies when dexamethasone was used.It indicates that dexamethasone is an effective drug in the treatment of intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy.
