Effect of metoprolol in prevention for vasovagal syncope
Fifty-seven consecutive Patients with Vasovagal Syncope(VVS)underwent 60 degree tilt table test(TTT).- Twenty-eight patients with a positive result of TTT were divided into metoprolol group and placebo group
randomly. The short-term therapeutic effect was assessed by repeated TTT on the 7th day after treatment and the long-term effect by clinical follow-up.Results The negative rate of repeated TTT was 82%(9/11)in metoprolol grorp compared with 88%(8/9)in control group(P>0.05).The clinical follow-up period of metoprolol group averaged 132 days and the control group 174 days. Two cases in both groups
respectively
had recurrence of syncope or presyncope. The specific effect of metoprolol is not found in our study.
