ASSESSMENT OF EXTRATYNPANIC ELECTRODE FOR NONINVASIVE ELECTROCOCHLEOGRAPHY IN INFANTS
A new extratynpanic electrode has been used successfully for the noninvasivc recording of electrocochleography (EcochG) in 110 normal children aged from 37 conception weeks to 6 years old. The presented rates of wave AP-N1 or SP both were 100%
and more than 90.8% for wave AP-N2 at 120 dBpeSPL. The latency of wave AP-Nt coincided with wave 1 in brainstem evoked potential recorded simultaneously. In 20 normal young adults
the latencies and amplitudes of wave APs or SPs were similar to the results reported in literatures using other kind of electrodes. Recorded by the electrode in 7 older children and 8 young adults
the presented rates of waves increased 23.3% and the amplitudes were higher as comparing with the results of Coats electrode which is a popular electrode for ECochG recording in adult. Present study showed that the. new electrode could successfully record the ECochG for the subjects at any age including neonate with the advantages as painless and easy to do without any anesthesia
