LIPIODOL GUIDED CHEMOEBOLIZATION THERAPY FOR MODERATE AND ADVANCED CARCINOMA OF LIVER
we have performed transcatheter oily chemotherapy using adri-amycin lipiodol and gelfoam in 20 cases of unresectable carcinoma of liver. All cases were treated by water in oil emulsion of adriamycin and lipiodol through a hepatic arterial catheter
and repeated every 3-4 weeks for 2-3 times. After the last injection
gelfoam embolization wece performed in 3 cases.result
no serious complication was found except few patients had some mild reactions. AFP turned to negative in 6 cases. The size of the tumor was decreased obviously in 7 cases and 6 of them over 50%
2 had second-look operation and one had been resected. This patient have lived well for 19 month. 1 year survival rate was 25%. The longest survival up to date is 30 months. Our opinions arei(1)This is a good management for preparation of a second-lookoperation for some non-resectable cases.(2)This procedure is only used in cases of tumors localized in one loop of the liver
without distant metastasis and there are no tumor emboli in the portal vein and the cirrhosis is not very serious.(3)This therapy can be repeated if necessary
