EXPERIMENTAL AND PRIMARY CLINICAL OBSERVATIONS ON ARTERIALIZATION OF THE VENOUS CHANNEL TO IMPROVE THE CIRCULATION OF ISCHEMIC LOWER EXTREMITIES
Abstract
Ten mongrel dogs were subjected to arterialization of the venous channel with long saphe-nous vein in situ followed then by ligating the main arterial trunks to the lower limb. All animals survived well. The moaitoring criteria for the circulatory condition of the limd consisted of observation of the skin temperature
radioactive isotopes scanning and arteriography. The results were satisfactory suggesting successful blood flow to tissue of the ischem.ic limb. Thus the operation as designed may be effective to relieve the severe ischemia of the lower extremities and may be an effective method for the treatment of thromboangiitis obliterans and occl-usive arterial disease in the lower extremities.A clinical function of long saphenous vein valves is studied. Ten patients with diffuse arterial occlusive disease have been treated with this operation and followed up 3-17 months. The postoperative results are excellent
