Role of metabolic inflammation and abnormal lipid distribution in the development of NAFLD
Metabolic inflammation mainly refers to a chronic low abundance of inflammatory response from macrophages
adipocytes
liver and other cells triggered by excess of nutrients. CD36(cluster of differentiation 36
FAT/CD36)
also known as a fatty acid transporter
is considered to be the hub for natural immunity and lipid metabolism. Fatty acids can induce CD36 expression in hepatocytes which can bind to the Toll-like receptors(TLR)4/6 and form heterodimers
leading to occurrence of inflammatory responses. Under the metabolic inflammation
liver uptakes and synthesizes more lipids
leading to nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)development.CD36 may be a potential target for the treatment of NAFLD.
