Introduction to the recent international diagnostic criteria for Alzheimer’s disease
The recent authoritative international diagnostic criteria included the National Institute on Aging-Alzheimer’s Association(NIA-AA)diagnostics criterion published in 2011 and a new AD research diagnostic criterion(IWG-2)in 2014 launched by the International Working Group(IWG). Both the two diagnostic criteria considered that AD was a continuous process
and the diagnostic criteria could be covered in the whole process of the Alzheimer’s disease from asymptomatic period to the late disease. So both the two diagnostic criteria had a lot in common
such as the recognition of the role of biomarkers in the diagnosis process
the existence of clinically asymptomatic stage while the biomarkers in positive. But the focus and details of the AD dementia diagnostic criteria are different in the two diagnostic criteria
and each had its own limitations and the need to update it in real time with the rapid development of the cognitive field.
