Impact of preoperative psychological factors on the postoperative pain and satisfaction of patients receiving anterior dental implant surgery
Objective:To explore the impact of preoperative psychological factors on the postoperative pain and satisfaction of patients receiving anterior dental implant surgery. Methods:A total of 92 patients with anterior tooth missing admitted to the Affiliated Hospital of Stomatology of Chongqing Medical University were included from March 2013 to June 2015. Symptom checklist 90(SCL90)and state-trait anxiety inventory(STAI)
as well as pain visual analogue scale(VAS) and self-satisfaction evaluation
were used to test the psychological status of each subject;Pearson correlation analysis was conducted according to the postoperative pain and self satisfaction scores and the degree of anxiety in patients. Results:The SCL90 total score of subjects was higher than the national norm;in the analysis of individual section
the score of anxiety was 12.9%
higher than the national norm;there was no significant difference in other indexes. The patients were grouped according to the standard of anxiety score. There were statistically significant differences in the scores of postoperative pain and self-satisfaction between each state anxiety inventory(SAI)group(P<0.05). There were statistically significant differences in the scores of postoperative pain and self-satisfaction between each trait anxiety inventory(TAI)group(P<0.05)
and the trend was consistent with the SAI. SCL90 scores before implantation was positively correlated with SAI and TAI
while it was also positively correlated with postoperative pain scores(SAI:R=0.471
P=0.024;TAI:R=0.528
P=0. 041)and self-satisfaction scores(SAI:R=0.492
P=0.031;TAI:R=0.573
P=0.047). Conclusion:Relevance between preoperative psychological factors and postoperative pain and satisfaction in anterior dental implant surgery is established. The future research should include necessary factors in analyzing psychological factors of the dental implant patients and detecting possible biological changes
in order to find the plausible interventions to strengthen the doctor-patient communication and to improve the clinical diagnosis and treatment of anterior tooth implantation.
