High risk cut-off point of Braden-Q pediatric pressure ulcer risk assessment scale
Objective:To determine the high risk cut-off point of Braden-Q scale when being applied to predict children’s pressure ulcer risk. Methods:The occurrence of pressure ulcers in 372 in-patient children in our hospital with their Braden-Q score no more than 24 point were monitored and accessed from Jannuaray to June in 2014. By observing their sensitivity
specificity
positive predictive value
negative predictive
Jorden index and receiver operating characteristic curve(ROC)
the high risk cut-off point of Braden-Q scale was evaluated and determined. Results:Of the 372 patients
37.73% had Braden-Q score ≤ 16 points(the lowest 11points)and 72.27% had Braden-Q score of 17-24 points. Twenty-one patients finally developed pressure ulcers. Their Braden-Q scores varied between 13 points and 16 points. Sixteen point was set to be the cut-off point of Braden-Q scale
which best predicted the risk of pressure ulcers with sensitivity of 0.826
specificity of 0.759
positive predictive value of 0.185
and negative predictive value of 0.985;and the area under ROC(AUC) is 0.923. Conclusion:Braden-Q scale is reliable in forecasting occurrence risk of children’s pressure ulcers
and 16 is the optimal point in diagnosing high risk of pressure ulcer.
