Objective: To study the cause of amputation caused by ischemic disease of lower extremities and the precautionary measures. Methods:Altogether 32 cases of amputation caused by ischemic disease of lower extremities from 1995 to 2000 in my hospital were summerized. Results: There were 13 cases of arteriosclerosis obliterans
11 cases of diabetic extremital gangrene
5 cases of thromboangiitis obliterans
and 3 cases of arterious embolism of lower extremities. Conclusion: Arteriosclerosis obliterans and diabetic vascular pathological changes are the main causes of amputation caused by ischemic gangrene of lower extremities. Prompt and correct diagnoses and effective treatment in the early period are important measure to lower the amputation rate of ischemic disease of lower extremities. Bypass and interventional therapies are the major methods to treat arterious blockage of lower extremities.
