Establishment of transplantable malignant bone tumor model and observation of its biological features in rabbit
Objective: To establish an experimental animal model of malignant bone tumor and observe its biological features. Methods: The VX2 tumor tissue mass was transplanted in tibia metaphysis of 51 New Zealand white rabbits. The biological features of the transplanted tumor tissue were observed by pathological and radiological examination
tumor measurement and natural survival time determination. Results: The orthotopic ±tumor growth rate was 100%. Average survival time was (3511) days. The tumor metastasized to lung and other organs in 3 weeks after transplantation. The radiological features were bone destruction
periosteal response and image of soft tissue mass. The pathological examination showed bone destruction and periosteal hyperplasia. The histological type of primary foci was coincident with that of metastatic foci. Both belonged to squamous cell carcinoma. Conclusion: The model has a very high rate of success and steady biological features. The biological and radiological features of the model are similar to those of malignant bone tumors in human
so it serves as a large animal model for the study of malignant bone tumor.
