The effect of cilostazol on erectile function in diabetic rat model
Objective:To investigate the effect of cilostazol on erectile function in diabetic rat model. Methods:Diabetes were induced in 50 male adult sprague-dawley(SD) rats by an intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin. The DM rats were randomly divided into diabetic group(DM group )and cilostazol therapy group(CI group) 8 weeks after the injection(another 10 normal SD rats as control
C group). The rats in each group were treated with cilostazol20 mg/(kg·d) or NS through a gastric perfusion for 8 weeks. Then the erectile function of all these rats was evaluated by apomorphine.Motor nerve conduction velocity of sciatic nerve(MNCV) was evaluated by electrophysiology method.Their penis tissues were harvested to measure the level of nitric oxide synthase(NOS) by colorimetric method
and the penile cell apoptosis of smooth muscle was analyzed by TUNEL assay. Results:The erectile function
MNCV and NOS level in CI group significantly increased
while the apoptosis ratio significantly decreased(P<0.05)
compared with DM group. Conclusion:Cilostazol has obvious therapeutic effect on the decrease of erectile function in rats with diabetes.
