Argon plasma coagulation via bronchoscopy for treatment of central type lung cancer
Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness and the safety of argon plasma coagulation(APC) via bronchoscopy for treatment of central type lung cancer. Methods: Overall 21 patients with central type lung cancer were selected and treated with APC via bronchoscopy
including 15 cases of squamous cell carcinoma of bronchus
3 cases of adenocarcinoma
1 case of adenosquamous carcinoma and 2 cases of neuroendocrine carcinoma. The evaluation included pulmonary function
the location of the airway lesions
the degree of obstruction
dyspnea index and the KPS scores. Results: Full effectiveness was achieved in 6 cases(28.6%)
partial effectiveness in 14 cases(66.7 %)
mild effectiveness in 1 cases(4.8%) and none in 0 case. Conclusion: APC via bronchoscope is an effective and safe method to treat central type lung cancer.
