Proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy for evaluating the development of the normal adult brain
Objective:To discover the metabolic change of brain with age in normal adults by using volume-selective
two dimensional 1H-MRS.Methods:1H-MRS was obtained from 50 normal persons aged from 19 to 49 years with the use of PRESS sequence. The areas under the peaks were measured;the ratio of N-acetylaspartate(NAA
choline(Cho)to creatine(Cr)were caculated.The relationship between the decreased ratio of NAA/Cr and Cho/Cr
and age was examined by statistics method. Results: We found there was no relationship between NAA/Cr and age.The ratio of Cho/Cr decreased with age. Conclusion:MRS can detect the metablolic change of the brain with age in normal people
and show the development of the normal brain noninvasively.
