Effects of individualized medical nutrition in combination with exercise intervention on sleep quality in patients with hyperthyroidism combined with diabetes mellitus
Abstract
Objective To investigate the effects of individualized medical nutrition in combination with exercise intervention on glycemic control level
complications and sleep quality in patients with hyperthyroidism combined with diabetes mellitus. Methods A total of 70 patients with hyperthyroidism combined with diabetes mellitus admitted to a hospital in Nanyang from June 2020 to May 2021 were selected as subjects. They were assigned to an observation group(n=35
receiving individualized medical nutrition combined with exercise intervention and holistic care) and a control group(n=35
receiving holistic care only) via the random number table method. The glycemic control levels [Hemoglobin A1c(HbA1c)(HbAlc)]
fasting plasma glucose(FPG) and 2 h postprandial blood glucose(2 h PG)
sleep quality [Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI)scores] and the occurrence of complications during care were compared between the two groups before and at 3 months of the intervention. Results The incidence of complications during nursing in the observation group was 2.86%
which was lower than that in the control group(17.14%)
and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05). Before the intervention
there was no significant difference in blood glucose and PSQI scores between the two groups(P >0.05). After the intervention
the levels of HbAlc
FPG and 2 h PG in the two groups were lower than those before the intervention
and the study group was lower than the control group
with statistical significance(P<0.05). After the intervention
the PSQI scores of the two groups were lower than those before the intervention
and the observation group was lower than the control group
with statistical significance(P<0.05). Conclusion The individualized medical nutrition in combination with exercise intervention in the nursing of patients with hyperthyroidism combined with diabetes mellitus indicates marked effects
which can effectively improve blood sugar control and sleep quality
and reduce the risk of complications. These benefits justify a wider application of this technique clinically.
