A pplication of standardized exercise video combined with personal behavior log in postoperative patients with medial unicompartmental osteoarthritis of the knee
Objective To explore the effect of the standardized exercise video combined with personal behavior log in postoperative patients with medial unicompartmental osteoarthritis of the knee. Methods A total of 104 patients with medial unicompartmental osteoarthritis of the knee admitted to a hospital in Nanyang from October 2019 to September 2020 were selected as subjects and assigned to a control group(n=52) and a study group(n=52) in accordance with the order of archiving. Patients in the control group received conventional nursing intervention
while patients in the study group received standardized exercise videos combined with personal behavior log intervention in addition to the conventional nursing
and both groups received continuous intervention for 2 months. The functional exercise compliance
recovery of the affected limb(time to first get out of bed after surgery
time required for knee flexion over 90°
maximum flexion) and satisfaction with care were compared between the two groups
and the Hospital for Special Surgery Knee-Rating Scale(HSS) scores and Western Ontario and Mc Master Universities Arthritis Index(WOMAC) scores were compared between the two groups before and at 2 months of intervention. Results The compliance rate of functional exercise was 90.38% in the study group
which was higher than that of in the control group(75.00%)
and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05). The first time out of bed after surgery and the time required for knee flexion over 90°were shorter in the study group than those in the control group
and the maximum flexion was greater in the study group than that in the control group
and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05). At 2 months of intervention
the HSS scores and WOMAC scores of patients in the study group were higher than those in the control group
and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05). The scores of all dimensions of patient care satisfaction(empathy
responsiveness
reliability
assurance
and tangibility) were higher in the study group than those in the control group
and all differences were statistically significant(P<0.05). Conclusion The application of the standardized exercise video combined with the personal behavior log intervention in postoperative patents with medial unicompartmental osteoarthritis of the knee was effective
significantly increasing patients’ compliance with functional exercise
improving their knee function
and facilitating their recovery process with high nursing satisfaction.
