Application of holistic rehabilitation care in elderly male patients with Alzheimer’s disease
Objective To explore the effects of holistic rehabilitation care on the cognitive function
psychological status and daily living ability of elderly male patients with Alzheimer’s disease. Methods Eighty-two cases of elderly male patients with Alzheimer’s disease admitted to a hospital in Henan province from March 2017 to January 2021 were selected for the study and divided into a control group(43 cases) and a test group(39 cases) using the random number table method.Patients in the control group received conventional care
and patients in the experimental group were given holistic rehabilitation care on the basis of the control group. The caregiver burden and the scores of the mini-mental state exam(MMSE)
barthel index(BI)
and symptom checklist-90(SCL-90) before and after the intervention were compared between the 2 groups. Results Before the intervention
there was no statistically significant difference between the MMSE
SCL-90 and BI scores of the two groups(P>0.05).After the intervention
the MMSE and BI scores of the two groups were higher than before the intervention and the test group was higher than the control group
and the SCL-90 scores were lower than before the intervention and the test group was lower than the control group
and the differences were all statistically significant(P<0.05).Caregiver burden was better in the test group than in the control group
and the difference was statistically significant(U=2.050
P<0.05).Conclusion The application of holistic rehabilitation care can help improve the psychological status of elderly male Alzheimer’s disease patients
improve their cognitive function and daily living ability
and reduce the burden of caregivers.
