Effect of individualized nutrition intervention combined with health education on nutritional status of patients undergoing chemotherapy after gastric cancer surgery
Objective To explore the effect of individualized nutrition intervention combined with health education on nutritional status of patients undergoing chemotherapy after gastric cancer surgery. Methods Seventy-four patients who underwent radical gastric cancer surgery in a hospital in Henan Province from April 2018 to June 2021 were selected for the study
and the patients were divided into observation group and control group using the random number table method
with 37 cases in each group. Patients in the control group were given standard nutritional interventions combined with health education. Patients in the observation group were given personalized nutrition intervention combined with health education. The serum albumin(ALB)
prealbumin(PA)
and hemoglobin(Hb) levels of patients in the 2 groups before and at 6 months of intervention were compared. The occurrence of toxic side effects of chemotherapy was compared between the 2 groups of patients at the time of discharge. Results Before the intervention
there was no statistically significant difference in the levels of ALB
PA and Hb between the 2 groups(P>0.05). At 6 months of intervention
the levels of ALB
PA and Hb in the 2 groups were higher than those before the intervention
and the observation group was higher than the control group
and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05). The incidence of toxic side effects was 8.10%in the observation group
which was lower than that of 27.03% in the control group
and the difference was statistically significant(P <0.05). Conclusion The application of individualized nutrition intervention combined with health education in postoperative chemotherapy for gastric cancer is clinically effective
which can effectively improve patients’ nutritional status
promote patients’ gastrointestinal tract function recovery and reduce chemotherapy-related toxic side effects
and is worthy of clinical promotion.
