Effect of extended care combined with maternity matrons on the risk of postpartum depression in multiparas
Objective To study the effect of extended care combined with maternity matrons on the risk of postpartum depression in multiparas. Methods One hundred and eighty cases of multiparas who delivered in a hospital in Heze City were selected as the study subjects
including 90 cases each in the observation group and the control group. The women in the control group were given family care and routine follow-up after delivery
while the women in the observation group were given extended postpartum care combined with maternity matrons accompanying them on the basis of the control group. The positive rate of depression
Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale(EPDS) score and self-rating depression scale(SDS) score at 6 weeks postpartum were compared between the two groups. Results The number of positive depression cases in the observation group at 6 weeks postpartum was 8
and the positive depression rate was 8.9%. In the control group
the number of positive depression cases at 6 weeks postpartum was 19
and the rate of positive depression was 21.1%. The positive rate of depression in the observation group at 6 weeks postpartum was significantly lower than that in the control group
and the difference was statistically significant(χ

=5.27
P

0.05). The EPDS and SDS scores in the observation group were 3.45±3.20 and 39.84±7.96 at 6 weeks postpartum
respectively
and those in the control group were 5.49±3.37 and 46.21±9.11 at 6 weeks postpartum
respectively. The EPDS and SDS scores in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group at 6 weeks postpartum
and the differences were statistically significant(t=4.164
4.996
P
