A study on the effect of psychological intervention guided by narrative medicine on the coping mode and quality of life of patients undergoing radical gastric cancer surgery
Objective To study the effect of psychological intervention under the guidance of narrative medicine on the coping style and quality of life of patients undergoing radical surgery for gastric cancer. Methods Sixty-eight patients who underwent radical gastric cancer surgery in a hospital in Zhengzhou from January 2019 to January2020 were selected for this study. The patients were divided into an observation group and a control group using a random number table
with 34 cases in each group.Patients in the control group received conventional psychological nursing intervention
and patients in the observation group were given psychological intervention under the guidance of narrative medicine. The Medical Coping Modes Questionnaire(MCMQ) was used to assess the patients’ coping modes before and at 2 weeks of intervention;the Social Support Rating Scale(SSRS) was used to assess the patients’ social support before and at 2 weeks of intervention;the Quality of Recovery-15(QoR-15)questionnaire was used to assess the patients’ postoperative recovery. Results At 2 weeks of intervention
the score of the confrontation dimension in the MCMQ of patients in the observation group was 19.36 ± 2.33
which was higher than that of the control group(17.24 ± 2.12)
and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).The scores of avoidance and submission dimensions in the MCMQ of the observation group were 11.02±2.01 and 11.12±2.04
which were lower than those of the control group(12.45±2.54 and 12.31±1.96)
and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).At 2 weeks of intervention
the objective support
subjective support and utilization of social support scores in SSRS were 11.68±0.54
15.89±1.14 and 12.48±0.96 in the observation group
respectively
which were higher than those in the control group(8.59±0.67
12.36±1.03 and 8.22±0.64)
and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).At 2 weeks of intervention
the QoR-15 score of patients in the observation group was 102.44 ± 10.36
which was significantly higher than that of the control group(82.16±6.78;P<0.05).Conclusion Psychological intervention under the guidance of narrative medicine can enable patients undergoing radical gastric cancer surgery to adopt a more positive way to cope with the disease and treatment and can help patients get moresocial support and promote their postoperative recovery with significant effects. Therefore
it is worth promoting and application.
