Pharmaceutical Care for a Neonate with Congenital Hypeinsulinism and Hypoglycemia Maintenance Therapy
Objective: To explore the role of clinical pharmacists in the pharmaceutical care for a neonate with congenital hypeinsulinism and hypoglycemia maintenance therapy. Methods: Clinical pharmacists evaluated the correlation between blood glucose maintenance therapy
drug selection and adverse drug reactions in a child with congenital hyperinsulinemia
and provided suggestions for clinical treatment. Results: After drug therapy
the blood glucose of the neonate was restored to a stable level
and the adverse drug reactions that might be induced by octreotide were treated in a timely manner. After the condition was stabilized
the neonate was transferred to the higher level hospital for the further treatment. Conclusion: Clinical pharmacists should monitor children with congenital hypeinsulinism
formulate drug therapy regimens and put forward drug recommendations
identify adverse drug reactions in a timely manner
and ensure the safety of medication for neonates.
