Correlation analysis of high sensitive C-reactive protein and cardiac function in patients with chronic heart failure complicated by atrial fibrillation
Objective: To investigate the correlation between high sensitive C-reactive protein(hs-CRP) level and cardiac function in patients with chronic heart failure(CHF) complicated by atrial fibrillation. Methods: A total of 215 patients with heart failure admitted to our hospital from March 2014 to June 2016 were enrolled as subjects.According to electrocardiography(ECG)/24-hour ambulatory ECG and the hs-CRP level
patients were divided into CHF with sinus rhythm group
CHF with atrial fibrillation group
low hs-CRP group(≤ 9.9 mg/L)
and high hs-CRP group(> 9.9 mg/L). A correlation analysis was performed on the hs-CRP level and cardiac function in CHF complicated by atrial fibrillation. Results: Compared with the low hs-CRP group
the high hs-CRP group had a significantly higher N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide(NT-proBNP) level(P < 0.01)
a significantly higher New York Heart Association(NYHA) grade(P < 0.05)
and a significantly lower left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF)(P <0.01). Compared with the CHF with sinus rhythm group
the CHF with atrial fibrillation group had significantly higher NT-proBNP level(P < 0.01)
hs-CRP level(P < 0.01)
and NYHA grade(P < 0.01) but a significantly lower LVEF(P < 0.05). The hs-CRP level was negatively correlated with LVEF(r =-0.400
P < 0.05) but positively correlated with the NT-proBNP level(r = 0.338
P < 0.05). Conclusion: Patients with heart failure complicated by atrial fibrillation have a high hs-CRP level and a strong inflammatory response
which result in poor cardiac function and severe disease.
