Assessment of suicide risk in the patients with malignant tumors and its influencing factors using the Cancer Suicide Risk Scale
Objective: To investigate the suicide risk in the patients with malignant tumors and its influencing factors
and to provide theoretical and practical references for evaluation and prevention of suicide risk in patients with malignant tumors. Methods: A total of 355 patients with malignant tumors
who were hospitalized in the Affiliated Hospital of Southwest Medical University and the Affiliated Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital of Southwest Medical University from August to October
2017
were enrolled by convenience sampling. The Cancer Suicide Risk Scale(CSRS) and Self-Rating Depression Scale(SDS) were distributed to those patients. The differences in scores between patients with different characteristics were analyzed by multiple linear regression. Results: The CSRS scores of patients with malignant tumors were between 5 and 70
with a mean score of 33.01 ± 14.276. The highest mean score was observed for negative emotion
followed by suicide motivation
suicide attitude
and suicide preparation(14.62 ± 8.23 vs 9.32 ± 3.86 vs 6.47 ± 3.85 vs 2.60 ± 2.55
P < 0.05). According to the correlation analysis of SDS and CSRS scores
depression score was positively correlated with suicide risk score(r = 0.708
P < 0.001). The results of multiple linear regression analysis revealed that the SDS score
age
disease symptoms
education level
and occupation were influencing factors for the CSRS score of a patient with malignant tumors(P < 0.05). Conclusion: Suicide risk is high in patients with malignant tumors. In order to prevent suicide in patients
family members and medical staff should identify the high-risk factors for suicide with outdelay
