An analysis of the characteristics of blood transfusion-associated adverse reactions in patients with blood diseases and preventive measures
Objective: To investigate the incidence of blood transfusion-associated adverse reactions(BTAARs)in patients with blood diseases
to analyze the characteristics of the cases
and to explore preventive measures. Methods: The clinical data and BTAARs reports of patients with blood diseases who had received blood componenttransfusion in our hospital from 2016 to 2018 were retrospectively investigated to summarize the incidence of BTA-ARs and analyze the characteristics of the cases. Results: The incidence rates of BTAARs were 0.82%
0.75%
and 0.68%
respectively
with no significant differences observed between the groups(χ
2
= 1.413
P
>
0.05). A to-tal of 159 patients experienced BTAARs in this investigation. Adverse reactions occurred due to transfusion of bloodcomponents(i.e.
red blood cell suspension(0.71%)
plasma(0.92%)
platelets(0.93%)
and cryoprecipitate(1.02%)
with a significantly lower incidence rate observed for red blood cell suspension compared with the otherthree components(P
<
0.05). Patients with a history of blood transfusion or pregnancy had a significantly higher rateof BTAARs than those without(0.99% vs 0.42%
P
<
0.05; 0.94% vs 0.63%
P
<
0.05). Patients with acute leuke-mia had a significantly higher rate of adverse reactions than those with other diseases(P
<
0.05). Conclusion: Themajority of patients with blood diseases have anemia
bleeding
and coagulation disorder
thus requiring repeatedblood transfusions
which makes them more susceptible to BTAARs. Therefore
attention should be paid to such pa-tients
with proper use of special blood components
and preventive measures should be taken in advance
so as toimprove the safety and effectiveness of blood transfusion.
