Research advances in the role of regulation of the ORAI/STIM channel by oxidative stress in cardiovascular diseases
Oxidative stress is involved in regulating a series of life processes including cell proliferation
differentiation
and death
and it is considered to be an important influencing factor for many diseases. Ca2 +signals are known to play an important role in the regulation processes
yet it is not clear how oxidative stress affects Ca2+signals. The ORAI/STIM channel
the main molecular component of the store-operated calcium channel widely distributed in the cell membrane
contributes to regulation of intracellular calcium homeostasis. Recent studies have demonstrated that STIM1 is an important oxidative stress receptor
participating in regulation of intracellular calcium signals by oxidative stress under physiological or pathophysiological conditions. Numerous studies have shown that oxidative stress is essential in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. However
the association of oxidative stress with ORAI/STIM and related regulation mechanisms remain controversial. Therefore
it is of great significance and medical value to further clarify the relationship between ORAI/STIM-mediated calcium signals and oxidative stress. This review summarizes the mechanisms by which oxidative stress regulates ORAI/STIM-mediated storeoperated calcium entry and relevant research progress in the development and progression of cardiovascular diseases.
