Efficacy of multimodality therapy for neck-type cervical spondylosis
Objective To assess the efficacy of multimodality therapy in treating neck-type cervical spondylosis. Methods A total of 100 patients with neck-type cervical spondylosis treated at the Rehabilitation Department of a Chongqing hospital from 2014 to 2016 were included in this study.Using a random number table
patients were divided into the control group(body acupuncture)
pulse magnetotherapy group
medium-frequency pulse electrotherapy group
neck exercise group
and multimodality therapy group
20 patients in each group. The clinical efficacy as well as the pre-and post-treatment Short-form McGill Pain Questionnaire(SF-MPQ)score and neck disability index(NDI)were compared among these groups. Results The pre-treatment scores of all SF-MPQ dimensions were comparable among the five groups(P>0.05);the post-treatment scores of all SF-MPQ dimensions were significantly reduced than their corresponding pre-treatment scores in all groups(P<0.05).The post-treatment scores of all SF-MPQ dimensions in the magnetotherapy group
medium-frequency pulse electrotherapy group
neck exercise group
and multimodality therapy group were significantly lower than those in the control group(P<0.05).The post-treatment scores of all SF-MPQ dimensions in the multimodality therapy group were significantly lower than those in the magnetotherapy group
medium-frequency pulse electrotherapy group
and neck exercise group(P<0.05).Conclusion For university students with neck-type cervical spondylosis
a multimodality regimen that combines body acupuncture
pulse magnetotherapy
medium-frequency pulse electrotherapy
and neck exercise is more effective than body acupuncture alone
which deserves widespread application in the university student population.
