Objective To study the awareness and knowledge about AIDS and AIDS health education requirements of freshmen from a higher vocational college in Guangdong province and to evaluate the effect of relevant intervention

namely AIDS health education for the freshmen.Methods The stratified cluster random sampling was used and 400 freshmen of 4majors including pharmaceutical marketing

marketing

logistical management and e-commerce logistics were selected before and after the intervention.In the survey the 2015 Youth Students Health Knownledge Inventory was adapted and the results were analyzed statistically.Results Before and after the intervention the total awareness rate of freshmen about AIDS were different significantly（P<0.05）.After the intervention

most of the freshmen acquired more basic knowledge of AIDS.Before the education

only 40.0% of freshmen knew that people HIV-infected and AIDS patients could get free detection and antiviral drug.After the intervention the freshmen′awareness of this item was 68.0%

and the diffidence was statistic significant（P<0.05）.Before and after the intervention

the differences between freshmen′answers to4 items

which were " Your attitude toward people HIV-infected and AIDS patients"

" Should people HIV-infected and AIDS patients stay open to public or not?"

" Do you think people HIV-infected and AIDS patients should give up their work or study?" and " Would you like to take part in AIDS campaign?"

were statically significant（P<0.05）.The freshmen hoped to get knowledge of AIDS through health lectures

teaching class

newspapers and journals

internet and other relevant publicity material.Conclusion This intervention of AIDS health education has good effect and universities and colleges should intake it into teaching programs and teach students through various ways like school teaching and peer teaching.
