The Aphrodisiac Effect of Honey-Lycium Barbarum-Tomato Juice in D-galactose Induced Aging Mice Models
Objective To investigate the potential aphrodisiac effect of Honey-Lycium barbarum-Tomato Juice(HLTJ)in D-galactose induced aging mice models. Methods A total of 50 NIH mice were included and randomized into the control group
the model group
low-(6.201g/kg)
medium-(12.402g/kg)
or highdose(24.804g/kg)HLTJ groups. The HLTJ was administered by intragastric injection
for consecutive 40 days.Multiple parameters including the serum malondialdehyde(MDA)level and antioxidant enzyme(SOD)activity
the testosterone level in serum and testicular tissues
the lactate dehydrogenase(LDH)level and sperm activity rate in seminal vesicle were measured and compared among these groups. Results In the model group
the serum MDA level was higher than that in the control group
whereas the serum SOD activity
the testosterone level in serum and testicular tissues
the LDH level and sperm activity rate in seminal vesicle were significantly lower compared with the control group(P<0.05).In the high-dose HLTJ group
the serum testosterone level was significantly higher than that in the model group(P <0.05).In the medium-dose HLTJ group
the serum MDA level was lower but the SOD activity was higher compared with the model group
and the LDH level and sperm activity rate in seminal vesicle were significantly higher than those in the control group(P<0.05).In the low-dose HLTJ group
the serum SOD activity
the testosterone level in serum and testicular tissues
the sperm activity rate in seminal vesicle were significantly higher compared with the model group(P<0.05).Conclusion Honey-Lycium Barbarum-Tomato Juice has an aphrodisiac effect on D-galactose induced aging mice.
