Objective To investigate the status quo of hypertension prevalence in teachers and staff members at a certain university so as to provide a scientific basis for preventing and controlling hypertension.Method Blood pressure of 1 599 teachers and staff members at a certain university in Chongqing were detected and basic information such as the incidence of hypertension and medicine taken was known by means of inquiry.Results The prevalence rate of hypertension in teachers and staff members at a certain university was 23.57%.The prevalence rate in the male was 26.11% and that in the female was 18.88%

and the differences were statistically significant（p<0.01）.The awareness rate

treatment rate and control rate of hypertension in group with elderly patients were 80.08%

76.19% and 30.03% respectively which were significantly higher than the group with young and middle-aged patients

and the differences were statistically significant（p<0.01）.Conclusion The prevalence of hypertension in teachers and staff members of university is not optimistic

but the awareness rate

treatment rate and control rate are relatively high which vary by sex and age.Universities shall pay high attention to the prevention and control of hypertension in teachers and staff members

and it’s important to carry out community health education on hypertension knowledge and establish management of chronic diseases which will be helpful in preventing and controlling hypertension.
