A Research on the Intervention Effects of Metformin on Metabolic Syndrome in the Elderly Population
Objective To discuss the effects of metformin (DMBG) on the metabolic syndrome (MS) in the elderly population.Method Using DMBG to cure the 55 faculty members who were diagnosed with metabolic syndrome. The usage and dosage is 1 000 mg per day
taken 2 to 3 times
orally at the time of 30 min before meal. The treatment period is 24 weeks. The indicators of MS were detected before and after treatment.Besides
43 cases of non-MS were selected randomly and the indications of MS were detected. Results The indicators of BMI
WC
WHR
BP (SBP
DBP)
FBG
BG2h
TC
TG
LDL-C and FFA of MS group were higher than non-MS group before intervention
but the HDL-C was lower. There were significant differences between the two groups(P<0.05 or P<0.01).The indicators of BMI
WC
WHR
FBG
BG2h
TG
LDL-C and FFA in MS group after DMBG intervention were lower than that before intervention
while the HDL-C was higher. The difference had statistical significance(P<0.05 or P<0.01).Though the indicators of BP (SBP
DBP)
TC were lower than before
the difference had no statistical significance (P>0.05).Conclusion DMBG can improve glucose and lipid metabolism and lose weight. It plays a positive role in preventing angiopathy of MS patients among the middle aged and elderly people.
