摘要

Abstract

Objective

To explore the effect of oral massage on oropharyngeal comfort in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma after radiotherapy.

Methods

A total of 85 patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma who underwent radiotherapy in our department from January 2016 to March 2017 were included. After having signed the informed consent

they were randomly divided into observation group (

=43) and control group (

=42). The observation group underwent the oral massage program (designed by doctors

nurses and physical therapists) and usual care

whereas the control group only received usual care. In 3 month later

the incidence of xerostomia and difficulty in opening mouth

sore throat scores and oral comfort scores were collected and compared between 2 groups.

Results

Compared with the control group

the incidence of xerostomia and difficulty in opening mouth

angina numeric rating scale (NRS) scores and oral comfort scores were significantly lower in the observation group (

0.05).

Conclusion

On the basis of usual care

oral massage for patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma after radiotherapy decreases the incidence of xerostomia and difficulty in opening mouth

relieves sore throat and improves oral comfort.
