Objective To determine the relationship between the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) appearance and pathology classification in oligodendroglial tumors. Methods MR images of 104 cases of identified oligodendroglial tumors who received MRI from 1998 to 2010 were retrospectively observed. The tumor site
shape

signal characteristics
cystic degeneration
hemorrhage
infiltrating range
peritumoral edema
massive effection
enhancement patterns and levels were studied. These data were analyzed with pathologic grading to obtain the relationship of MRI image fact
ors with tumor pathology classification. Results The average morbidity age was 42.37
and the male and female ratio was 1∶1. The sites at frontal lobes were in 62 cases
temporal lobes in 24 cases
parietal lobes in 13 cases
and a few cases were respectively at occipital lobe
cerebellum
lateral ventricle
saddle area
cerebellopontine angle area
cingulate cortex
fourth ventricle and thalamus. There was no significant relationship among tumors which had different pathologic grades in the tumors site

realm
peritumoral edema
cystic degeneration and enhancement levels (

but significant relationship in the tumor hemorrhage

massive effection and enhancement patterns(

infiltration scope
massive effection and enhancement patterns of oligodendroglial tumors in MR image are closely related to pathological classification
so they can be used to judge the benign and malignant degree among the tumors.
