Objective       To observe and analyze the clinical effect of mepilex combined with hypergel on the prevention of phlebitis caused by peripheral intravenous injection of amiodarone hydrochloride (trade name: cordarone).        Methods       A total of 100 patients

who were infused with cordarone intravenously

were chosen and randomly divided into research group and control group. Mepilex combined with hypergel was applied to the research group

while in the control group

50% glucose solution 20 mL and dexamethasone 5 mg were used to wet the gauze and then covered on the punctured vein until the end of infusion. The incidence and severity of phlebitis in the 2 groups were observed in 1

2 and 3 d after intervention.        Results       The incidence of phlebitis in the control group was higher than that in the research group (P=0.032). Besides

phlebitis was more serious in the control group.        Conclusion       Mepilex combined with hypergel can prevent phlebitis caused by infusion of cordarone through peripheral vein

significantly decrease the incidence of phlebitis

and effectively alleviate the severity of phlebitis.
