Objective      To study the clinical significance of transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) guided prostate biopsy combined with serum prostate specific antigen (PSA) in the diagnosis of prostate cancer (PCA).       Methods      A total of 62 patients with prostate cancer

which were diagnosed by TRUS and pathological biopsy

were selected from 3 874 prostate disease patients who were checked in our department from Jan. 2005 to Aug. 2014. The mean age of the patients was 68.5±13.5 years old. The TRUS image characteristics of prostate cancer and PSA values were analyzed.       Results      The characteristics of prostate cancer based on TRUS images were divided into the hiding type

nodular type

diffuse infiltrative type and diffuse infiltrative type with nodules. There were significant differences in the PSA values between the 2 kinds of diffuse infiltrative types and the hiding and nodular  types (P0.01). However

PSA values had no significant difference between the diffuse infiltrative type and the diffuse infiltrative type with nodules

and the same result was found between the hiding type and the nodular type (P0.05).       Conclusion      Serum PSA value combined with TRUS guided biopsy has an important clinical value in the diagnosis of prostate cancer

especially

of the hiding type and diffuse infiltration type.
