Objective To investigate the characteristics of resilience
and analyze its relationship with social support and coping style among the nurses from the Medical Contingent of the Chinese PLA to Liberia before their departure. Methods Fifty-four nurses of the contingent were investigated with Connor-Davidson resilience scale Chinese version (CD-RISC)
social support rating scale (SSRS) and coping style questionnaire (CSQ) before their departure to Liberia. Results The average total score was 73.50±10.01 for CD-RISC and 47.77±6.81 for SSRS. The total scores of social support from SSRS and the factors of problem solving from CSQ were positively correlated with resilience (r=0.365
0.326
P0.05). Conclusion The resilience status of the 54 nurses is good before their departure to Liberia. Social support and coping style affect their resilience. The total score of social support positively predict resilience status significantly. Improving social support and coping style will promote their resilience
and then contribute to the completion of the mission.
