Abstract
Objective To compare the long-term efficacy and safety of biodegradable polymer and durable polymer drug-eluting stents (DES) in the patients with coronary heart disease and diabetes. Methods A total of 364 diabetic patients (261 males and 103 females) who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in our center from January 2008 to December 2012 were recruited in this study. In the cohort
145 patients were implanted with biodegradable polymer DES and 219 patients with durable polymer DES. Major adverse cardiac events (MACE) were observed and compared between the 2 groups. Results There were no significant differences in the baseline data and coronary artery lesion between the 2 groups (P0.05). Compared with the biodegradable polymer group
the permanent polymer group had similar safety and efficacy in cardiac death (1.4% vs 1.9%)
non-fatal myocardial infarction (0.7% vs 0.9%)
stent thrombosis (2.1% vs 2.3%) and target vessel revascularization (2.8% vs 2.8%
all P0.05). Conclusion Biodegradable polymer and durable polymer DES have the similar long-term efficacy and safety in the patients with coronary heart disease and diabetes.
