Objective        To evaluate the efficacy of alpha blocker on voiding symptoms after prostate puncture biopsy.       Methods        Fifty inpatients of our hospital (63.1±6.6 years old) were randomized to a doxazosin treatment group (n=25) and a control group (n=25). Doxazosin mesylate controlled-release tablets were administrated (4 mg qd.) to patients in the doxazosin treatment group from 1 d prior to the puncture until 7 d after the puncture. International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) and maximal flow rate (Qmax) were assessed between the 2 groups at 3 time points (1 d prior to puncture and 1 d and 7 d after puncture).       Results        The IPSS of the doxazosin treatment group was 14.21±7.62

18.43±5.98 and 17.94±7.14 at 1 d before puncture and at 1 d and 7 d after puncture

but the IPSS of the control group was 16.49±8.33

21.44±4.75 and 19.02±6.57

respectively. The Qmax of the doxazosin treatment group was 9.32±6.82

7.08±9.35 and 8.36±11.21 mL/s at 1 d before puncture and at 1 d and 7 d after puncture

but the Qmax of the control group was 9.78±5.45

5.64±10.42 and 8.85±10.94 mL/s

respectively.       Conclusion        Alpha blocker can relieve voiding symptoms after prostate puncture biopsy.
