Objective To investigate the clinical influencing factors for lung adenocarcinoma patients with brain metastasis (BM)
and to provide references for clinical diagnosis and treatment of lung adenocarcinoma. Methods Clinical data of 172 lung adenocarcinoma patients with brain metastasis from 2005 to 2010 were retrospectively analyzed. The cumulative incidence of BM was estimated using Kaplan-Meier method
and the differences among groups were analyzed using Log-rank test. Multivariate Cox regression analysis was applied to assess the influencing factors of BM. Results The median time from lung adenocarcinoma diagnosed to brain metastasis onset in all the patients was 13 months. One- and 2-year incidences of BM were 47.1% and 72.7%
respectively. The results of univariate analysis showed that the probability of brain metastasis was positively correlated with patients’ ECOG status (P0.001)
number of primary tumor (P0.001)
T-stage (P0.001)
N-stage (P0.001)
M-stage (P0.001)
TNM-stage (P0.001)
treatment modalities (P0.001) and short-term curative effect (P0.001). The results of multivariate analysis showed that N-stage (P=0.001)
M-stage (P=0.000)
TNM-stage (P=0.042) and short-term curative effect (P0.001) were independent influencing factors for the lung adenocarcinoma patients with brain metastasis. Conclusion The incidence of brain metastasis from primary lung adenocarcinoma is correlated with N-stage
