Objective To explore the posttraumatic growth and influencing factors of fresh medical cadets after training
and to provide scientific evidences for mental health education and recruits training. Methods Connor-Davidson resilience questionnaire (CD-RISC)
posttraumatic growth inventory (PTGI)
emotion regulation scale (ERS)
positive and negative affect scale (PANAS) and emotion regulation questionnaire (ERQ) were applied to examine 137 fresh cadets from a military medical university after one-month training in 2011. Results (1) The posttraumatic growth of the cadets had significant positive correlation with resilience (r=0.611
P0.01)
inhibition adjustment (r=0.309
P0.01)
abreaction adjustment (r=0.333
P0.01)
positive emotion (r=0.588
P0.01) and cognitive reappraisal (r=0.372
P0.01)
and had negative correlation with negative emotion (r=-0.204
P0.05). (2) Compared with the cadets with low PTGI scores
the cadets with high PTGI scores scored significantly higher in resilience
abreaction/inhibition adjustment
positive emotion and cognitive reappraisal (P0.05
P0.01). (3) The resilience
inhibition adjustment
positive emotion and cognitive reappraisal of the cadets could predict their posttraumatic growth (explaining rate 53%). (4) Resilience
inhibition adjustment
positive emotion and cognitive reappraisal directly affected posttraumatic growth
and inhibition adjustment
positive emotion and cognitive reappraisal could also indirectly affect the posttraumatic growth through resilience. Conclusion Resilience
abreaction/inhibition adjustment
positive/negative emotion and cognitive reappraisal are closely correlated with posttraumatic growth
and resilience
inhibition adjustment
positive emotion and cognitive reappraisal are important influencing factors of posttraumatic growth.
