Objective To study the preventive effect of exogenous hydrogen sulfide (H
2
S) on carbon tetrachloride(CCl
4
)-induced hepatic fibrosis in rats. Methods Twenty-four male Wistar rats were randomly divided into normal control group (n=8)
model group (n=8)
and H
2
S prevention group (n=8). NaHS was injected into the abdominal cavity of rats in H
2
S prevention group in addition to 40%CCl
4
once a day
for 8 weeks. Then
all rats were sacrificed and blood samples were collected to test the indications of hepatic fibrosis. Lipid peroxide indications and liver pathological changes were observed in li
ver tissue samples. Expression of NF-κB in liver tissue was detected by RT-PCR and Western blotting
respectively. Results Exogenous H
2
S significantly decreased the serum HA,LN,PCⅢ I and MDA levels
hepatic fibrosis
expression of NF-kB and increased the SOD and GSH-Px activities in liver tissues (P0.01 or P0.05). Conclusion Exogenous H
2
S protects against CCl
4
-induced hepatic fibrosis in rats by inhibiting the expression of NF-κB.
