Objective To study the expression of mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) and eIF4E signal pathway in human cerebral glioma and its clinical significance. Methods Expression of mTOR and eIF4E was detected in 31 glioma tissue samples
33 advanced glioma tissue samples
and 10 normal brain tissue samples by S-P immunohistochemistry. Correlation between mTOR and eIF4E expressions and related clinical data was analyzed. Results The expression level of mTOR and eIF4E was significantly higher in human cerebral glioma tissue samples than in normal cerebral tissue samples. The expression rate of mTOR and eIF4E was significantly higher in advanced glioma tissue samples in mild and moderate glioma tissue samples (78.79% and 78.79% vs 35.48% and 45.16%
P0.05). There was a positive correlation between mTOR gene and eIF4E expressions in human glioma (r=0.449
P0.01). Conclusion Expression of mTOR and eIF4E in human cerebral glioma is significantly increased. mTOR/eIF4E signal pathway may play a certain role in the occurrence and development of cerebral glioma.
