Objective To assess the association of A252G and C804A polymorphisms in the lymphotoxin-α (LTA) gene with myocardial infarction (MI) through Meta-analysis. Methods Case-control studies involved in the relationship between the 2 polymorphisms of LTA gene and MI were retrieved from PubMed and CNKI databases of 2002 to 2008.RevMan4.2 software was used for statistical analyses. Results Totally 9 eligible articles were selected in this study
including a total of 15 809 MI cases and 9 566 controls for the A252G polymorphism and a total of 16 356 MI subjects and 9 966 controls for the C804A polymorphism. The combined data revealed that the OR for MI was 1.14
95%CI: 0.94-1.38 (P=0.19) in GG252 genotype compared with (GA252+AA252) genotypes and the OR for MI was 1.06
95%CI: 0.85-1.30 (P=0.62) in AA804 genotype compared with (AG804+GG804) genotypes. Moreover
when subgroup analyses were carried out by race
these analyses were consistent with results mentioned above (P0.05). Conclusion The present data suggest that both GG252 and AA804 genotypes of the LTA gene are not the risk factors of MI. Further evaluations in adequately powered large studies are needed to confirm these findings.
