Objective   To elucidate the occurrence

prevention and treatment of the side effects  caused by anti-tuberculosis drugs for spinal tuberculosis.    Methods   Between January 1998 and December 2007

156 hospitalized patients with spinal tuberculosis were reviewed.    Results   There were 68 cases (43.6%) of the patients suffered side effects caused by anti-tuberculosis drugs (114 times). The symptoms of liver functional lesion

acoustic nerve injury

gastrointestinal response and eyesight injury of them were primary (86.0%). There were 4 cases (about 2.6%) having to stop anti-tuberculosis treatment due to side effects. In this group there were 43 cases having one kind of side-effects

20 cases having two kinds of side effects

and 5 cases having three or more side effect. There were 67.5% having side effects occurred within 2 months after administration.    Conclusion   The side effects of anti-tuberculosis drugs are common

but often ignored by patients. If patients have serious side effects of anti-tuberculosis drugs

it will easily lead to serious consequences

so clinicians should pay more attention to it.
