Objective To summarize the skills and outcomes of the combined application of a self-expanding neurovascular stent system and detachable coils in the management of wide-necked intracranial aneurysms. Methods Twenty cases of wide-necked intracranial aneurysms were endovascularly embolized using self-expanding stent combined with Guglielmi detachable coil (GDC). Results Total occlusion was achieved in 15 aneurysms (75%)
over 90% in 3 aneurysms (15%)
and less than 90% in 2 aneurysms (10%). Complications occurred as follows: bleeding in 2 patients (10%) during the procedure and one of them died later
thrombotic cerebral infarction in 1 patient and carotid arteriospasm in another patient
but no stent shifting
deformation
shedding or collapse occoured. Conclusion The combination of self-expanding neurovascular stent system with detachable coils can increase the total occlusion rate in the management of wide-necked intracranial aneurysms. But its long-term effect needs further study.
