Objective To examine the expressions of phosphatase and tension homologue deleted on chrom osome10 (PTEN)
P27 and TGF-β
1
in cervical adenocarcinoma
and study their clinical significance and their correlativity. Methods Forty-three cervical adenocarcinomas were compared with 18 normal endocervical controls by immunohistochemical analysis of PTEN
P27 and TGF-β
1
. Results PTEN and P27 exhibited higher positive
rates in cervical adenocarcinomas (62.79% and 55.81%) than those in normal endocervical controls (88.89% and 94.44%) (P0.05). The levels of PTEN or P27 expression in cervical adenocarcinomas decreased with the increasing of clinical stage (P0.01)
whereas positive staining of PTEN or P27 in well-differentiated carcinoma tissues was significantly stronger than that in moderately- or poorly-differentiated carcinoma tissues. No significant difference was between the positive rate of TGF-β
1
in normal endocervical controls (11.11%) and that in cervical adenocarcinomas (5.88%) (P0.05). No relationship was found between the expression of TGF-β
1
in cervical adenocarcinoma and clinical or pathological features (P0.05). The expression of PTEN was positively correlated to P27 in cervical adenocarcinoma. No obvious relationship of TGF-β
1
with PTEN or P27 was found. Conclusion PTEN and P27 are of value in the prognosis of cervical adenocarcinoma. TGF-β
1
may not contribute to carcinogenesis and development of cervical adenocarcinoma.
