Objective  To evaluate the improved method of sublingual gland resection

the improved incision line and their clinical value.   Methods  The traditional operation method was modified and the curved incision line was turned to angular incision line. The dissection of submandibular duct started from its anterior end. The operation procedure was determined. Totally 858 patients followed for 1 to 25 years after sublingual gland resection were retrospectively investigated and compared

including 354 patients underwent the traditional operation procedure before 1991 and 504 patients received modified incision for sublingual resection.   Results  By our improved method

no serious complications occurred during the operation or after the operation. In addition

there was no recurrence after removing sublingual gland completely without dissecting its capsule wall.   Conclusion  This modified operation procedure leads to the easier and safer sublingual gland resection and can be widely applied in our clinical work.
